PIRATES' NAUTICAL TERMS

"Do we have a heading?"
"COME ON! SNAP TO AND MAKE SAIL!"
"ON DECK ALL HANDS!"
"Keep a weather eye on the horizon!"
"Yo ho, Yo ho! A pirate's life for me!"
"Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!"
"Vile and desolute creatures, the lot of them!"
(A short drop and a sudden stop = a hanging!)
"MAN OVERBOARD MAN THE ROPES! FETCH A HOOK! HAUL HIM ABOARD!"
"Rouse the captain immediately!"
"HEAVE TO AND TAKE IN SAIL! LAUNCH THE BOATS!"
"Pirates, ye be warned!"
"You don't have permission to be aboard there, mate!"
"FETCH SOME IRONS!"
"Commodore, I really must protest!"
"OPEN FIRE! ON HIS HEELS!"
"Do you think this wise, boy? Crossing blades with a pirate?"
"Oh! Excuse us if we havn't resigned ourselves to the gallows just yet!"
"CANNON FIRE! MEN TO ARMS!"
"The gold calls to us!"
"PARLAY! I invoke the right of parlay! According to the code of the breatheren set down by the pirates, Morgan and Bartholemew you have to take me to your captain!"
"If an adversary demands parlay you can do them no harm until the parlay is complete!"
"To blazes with the code!"
"We must honor the code!"
"Ye will not lay a hand on those under the protection of parlay!"
"Aye, sir!"
"Me holds are burstin' with swag! That bit 'o shine matters to us?!"
"You hand it over and we'll put your town to our rudder and ne'er return."
"STILL THE GUNS AND STOW 'EM!"
"Well, if you're intending to brave all and hasten to her rescue and so win fair lady's heart, you'll have to do it alone, mate. I see no profit in it for me."
"AYE! AVAST!"
"SEARCH EVERY CABIN, EVERY HOLD! SET TOP SAILS AND CLEAR UP THIS MESS!"
"He was a bloody pirate, a scallywag!"
"You didn't beat me. You ignored the rules of engagement. In a fair fight, I'd have killed you!"
"So can ye sail under the command of a pirate? Or can ya not?"
"Curse you for breathin', you slack-jawed idiot!"
"Keep a sharp eye!"
"Now what's the nature of this venture o' yorn?"
"It's a fool's errand! He's not a man to suffer fools nor strike a bargain with one!"
"There's no need to stand on ceremony nor call to impress anyone."
"It's a pirate medallion."
"So THIS is your able-bodied crew?!"
"Every man worth his salt and crazy to boot!"
"Do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death?!"
"Wind in his sails!"
"Anchors aweigh!"
"What's in your head that's put you in such a fine mood, Capt?"
"Dead men tell no tales!"
"Puts a chill in the bones how many honest sailors have been claimed by this passage!"
"When a pirates' marooned, he's given a pistol with one shot. Now that won't do much good for huntin' nor to be rescued. But after 3 weeks and a starvin' belly and thirst, that pistol starts to look real friendly!"
"KEEP TO THE CODE!"
"AYE! THE CODE!"
"Ten years of hordin' swag and now we finally get to spend it!"
"Any man who falls behind is left behind."
"You know, for havin' such a bleak outlook on pirates, you're well on your way to becoming one...Sprung a man from jail, commandeered a ship of the fleet, sailed with a buccaneer crew out of Tortuga and you're completely obsessed with treasure!"
"Not all treasure is silver and gold, mate!"
"Suffered, I have!"
"Punished, we were! The lot of us!"
"I won't take questioning nor second guesses! Not from the likes of you, Master Twigg!"
"If any coward here dare challenge me, let him speak!"
"You feckless pack of ingrates!"
"Damn to the depths whatever mutton-head thought up PARLAY!"
"WEIGH ANCHOR! HOIST THE SAILS! MAKE QUICK, YOU DIVVIES!"
"What sort of man trades a man's life for a ship?!"
"I'm havin' a thought here. What say we run up a flag of truce. What say you to that?"
"People are easy to search when they're dead."
"LOCK HIM IN THE BRIG!"
"HAUL ON THE MAIN BRACE! MAKE READY THE GUNS AND RUN OUT THE SWEEPS!"
"PREPARE TO BOARD!"
"What's in your head, boy!"
"Name your terms!"
"WALK THE PLANK!"
"Don't dare impugn me honor, boy!"
"You vanished from under the eyes of 7 agents of the East India Trading Co.! You sacked Nassau Port without even firing a shot! Are you the pirate I read about or not?!?"
"Rum runners used this island as a cashe, came by and I was able to barter passage off."
"Welcome to the Caribbean, luv!"
"We're devils, we're black sheep, we're really bad eggs! Drink up, me hearties! Yo ho!"
"And you'll be positively the most fearsome pirate in the Spanish Main!"
"That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and hull and a deck and sails. That's what a ship NEEDS but what a ship IS...is FREEDOM!"
"I'm not entirely sure that I've had enough rum to allow that kind of talk!"
"Rum is a vile drink that turns even the most respectable men into complete scoundrels."
"Keep a weather eye out and you will see white sails on that horizon."
"CLAP HIM IN IRONS!"
"Silent as the grave."
"Shiver me timbers!"
"You don't want to be doin' that, mate!"
"Send him down to see Ole Hobb!"
"We have an accord!"
"I couldn't resist, mate!"
"You're pirates! Hang the code and hang the rules! They're more like guidelines anyway!"
"Bloody pirates!"
"ON DECK, YOU SCABROUS DOGS! HANDS TO BRACES! LET DOWN TO RUN FREE! NOW BRING ME THAT HORIZON!"

(If any of this pirate lingo sounds familiar then you've been watching too many pirate movies!)
